Promote Indie Band : Solven.

**Short Story About Solven :

Solven are a group of friends who share the same campus and similar musical interests. Members of the band are also members of UCMJ, a gathering of music & dance enthusiasts at Atmajaya University, Jakarta.

Before there was Solven, there was ‘Libre’. Consists of Rofan, Genta, Adi, & Christian; Libre played music heavily influenced by the early 90’s Seattle music scene. Thanks to the great Pearl Jam’s “Go”, Libre got through every gig audition around campus and also participate in several competition & gig outside campus.

As time went by, Libre tried to compose a few songs of their own but during the process, Rofan the vocalist (now drummer of Stereo Conspiracy) resigned from the band in pursuit of a formal job. So then the band was at status quo. The three-men-left kept looking for a new singer while taking session jobs, playing in other bands, and, of course, continue striving for bachelor degree.

Three years later, around mid 2007, fate met the three with an old friend and senior from UCMJ by the name of Conrad who, a few years back, played in a band with Christian. Then Conrad showed his songs to Adi, Genta, & Christian and soon afterwards the four decided to form a band. With the help of Roland, a close friend of Genta & fellow member of UCMJ, the nameless band started jamming and in the process produced songs together. After a relatively long debate, the four finally agreed to put their music under the banner ‘Solven’. Roland became an official member of the band not long after.

So far, lyrics of Solven’s songs draws inspiration from Conrad’s relatively wild imagination and/or from relatively absurd dreams he had. While the music made has been a collective effort from Conrad who (according to the four) is a gifted songwriter; Adi who’s got the deep blues; Genta who adores Flea, Les Claypool, & Thomas Ramdhan; Roland who has a heart for the glam-rock/hair-metal era; & Christian who grew up listening to Green Day, Pure Saturday, Nirvana, Oasis, & Silverchair.



Solven’s influences/inspirators:

The Beatles, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Gigi, The Strokes, Tokyo Jihen, Weezer, Oasis, Coldplay, Deftones, Babyshambles, Robben Ford, Low, etc…

In mid-2008, Solven participated in a compilation album entitled ”Support Our Community”, one of the first expression outlets for UCMJ members, masterminded by UCMJ’s 2007-2008 chairman, Boni Eko (former drummer of Lunatic Racoon, Kuro, Side Project, Pee Wee Gaskins, dll.). Solven submitted their very first creation, “This Cold”. The album was then released through by Astro Bon Records (http://www.myspace.com/astrobonrecords).

Around April-May 2008, two of Solven’s, “Old Stranger Savior” & “The Wedding”, was featured on CompoundG (http://www.compoundg.com), a music streaming website based in Oakdale, New York.
